Jonathan Orszag serves as an Economic Policy Advisor on President Clinton's National Economic Council (NEC). He has been with the NEC since August 1997. As an Economic Policy Advisor, he is responsible for a wide variety of policy areas, including macroeconomic issues, homeownership, Individual Development Accounts, the minimum wage, and unemployment insurance reform.

Mr. Orszag had previously worked at the NEC in 1996, serving directly for Deputy National Economic Advisor Gene Sperling as an Assistant Director to the NEC. In that job, Mr. Orszag was responsible for helping to coordinate the Administration's daily economic message and to promote (and defend) President Clinton's economic record. He participated in policy formulation on a wide range of issues, from the President's expanded Family and Medical Leave proposal to his Welfare-to-Work initiative.

Prior to re-joining the National Economic Council, Mr. Orszag spent a year at Oxford University. While in Great Britain, Mr. Orszag worked directly for British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Chief Political Strategist, Philip Gould, helping to develop the Labour party's message on economic issues.

In 1995, Mr. Orszag helped James Carville, President Clinton's 1992 campaign strategist, research and write his New York Times #1 best-selling book, We're Right, They're Wrong: A Handbook for Spirited Progressives. In 1994-1995, Mr. Orszag was an economic aide to Labor Secretary Robert Reich, working on the minimum wage, tax proposals, and job training reform. Mr. Orszag has also taught economics at Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School.

Mr. Orszag received an M.Sc. in Economic and Social History from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar. He received his A.B. summa cum laude from Princeton University and was named a USA Today Academic All-American. He is also a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy.

Mr. Orszag carries a 3-handicap with his golf game, and enjoys baseball, basketball, waterskiing, and deep-sea fishing.
