FY2000 R&D Budget Rollout
Dr. Neal Lane, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, will hold a press conference on Monday, February 1, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the R&D portion of the FY 2000 budget that will enable the United States to maintain its global scientific and technological leadership in the 21st century.
The focus will be on a multi-agency initiative on long-term information technology research that will lead to fundamental breakthroughs in advanced computing and communications for science and engineering.
It is expected that Dr. Lane will be joined by Elgie Holstein, Associate OMB Director of Natural Resources, Energy & Science; Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson; NSF Director Rita Colwell; NASA Administrator Dan Goldin; NOAA Administrator Jim Baker; and DOD Undersecretary for Acquisition and Technology Jacques Gansler.
Due to a malfunctioning closed-circuit television system in the White House Conference Center, this year' s R&D press conference will be held in the closest auditorium to the White House, which is in the Office of Thrift Supervision, located at 1700 G Street, NW., directly across from the 17th and G Street entrance to the Old Executive Office Building.
