On Monday, October 6, President Clinton addressed some 200 participants at the White House Conference on Climate Change: The Challenge of Global Warming. The conference included discussions on the scientific, technological, international and economic aspects of climate change. Scientists, economists, corporate executives, environmental, civic and labor leaders, small business owners, members of Congress, and representatives of state and local governments a ttended the all-day conference at Georgetown.

The conference included: remarks by the President, Vice President and First Lady; panel discussions led by President Clinton and Vice President and featuring Secretary of Energy Federico Pena, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers; and lunchtime "breakout" sessions hosted by cabinet members and senior Administration officials. The conference was part of the Administration's ongoing public education effort on climate change and was designed to help inform the development of U.S. policy on this important issue.

The conference was broadcast live over the internet and via satellite to 32 locations across the country. Taped video and audio coverage of the conference will be available on this web site soon.
