Today, President Clinton travels to Botswana. Before traveling to north
Kasane, President Clinton attends a bilateral meeting and reception with
President Masire of Botswana at the State House in Gaborone. The State
House is the official residence of the President of Botswana. Located near
the government "enclave", or compound, in the capital city of Gaborone
(ha-boh-ROH-nay), the State House is the site of numerous official events,
including an annual Independence Day celebration on September 30th. The
expansive grounds of State House can accommodate a crowd of 5,000.
President Masire and his family have resided at State House since he
assumed the presidency in 1980. In addition to personal living quarters,
the residence has several reception rooms for hosting official functions,
as well as offices for meetings.
